Synopsis[]

Greg finds his journal after getting home from work under a stack of paperwork, and decided to give it a try after years of not writing in his journals for years. Greg says Rowley moved to Boston, and he has been working at an office job with Bryce Anderson, stating that he doesn't like the job but it pays his bills to which Greg questions if he's happy.
In the next entry, Greg says that Rodrick still lives in Plainville, but Manny moved to New York in his twenties, and the rest of the family haven't forgiven him. Sometimes Rodrick and Greg still see him if he's in town but not Frank and Susan. They still live in the same house. Rodrick is also now married, and they have got a kid. Greg takes note of the fact that Rodrick ended up in a good spot in his life and that he seems to know what he's doing.
Greg is not married as he's too busy with work. Greg then gets a phone call from Rodrick who says that he needs to go to the hospital now as Frank's cancer has gotten worse since he was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago. The next day Greg and his family were surprised to see Manny at the hospital because he wanted to see Susan and Frank but Frank tells him to get out which made Manny leave.

He tried to talk to Rodrick and Greg but Rodrick punched him in the face which shut him up. Greg was scared both for Frank and himself as he would not thought that his life would end up like this maybe there's something wrong with him so he sent a mail to Rowley. The next day Greg explains what happened to him and Rowley. They were friends since middle school, they went to the same college as him and even moved into the same neighborhood. Greg tried to apply for a job at Funbrain Games as that was the company that made Twisted Wizard and got Rowley his Zoo-Wee-Mama in the newspaper, which Greg was really happy about. But then one call changed things forever. Rowley got a call from a comic syndicate in Boston who told him that they were interested in his comics and offered him a position. The thing was, they only have room for one more cartoonist, so Rowley had to move to Boston within two weeks. Greg wasn't in a good mood already after Funbrain denied his application so he was devastated when Rowley told him about the news so the day before Rowley moved Greg and Rowley went to the top of Larry Mack Junior middle school's roof where Greg tells Rowley that he "loves him." He left next morning and he haven't talked to Greg ever since.

It has been a week since Greg messaged Rowley but he hadn't responded to him so he went to Boston and went to Rowley's place where Rowley responded with "I'm not gay, Greg" then he proceeds to slam the door making Greg sob.
The next day, Greg announces that his father is dead. He'll never be able to tell him how he feels about him. Greg says that he's the reason why he's miserable, when he was sixteen, he tried to tell him about his sexuality which he didn't take well and beat Greg up.
Frank's funeral was two days ago, Greg didn't attend it on the first day but today Greg visited his father's grave. While arriving there he saw Manny setting his grave on fire.
The next day Greg starts going crazy after he saw what Manny had become but he didn't tell Susan and Rodrick because he was scared of what they thought of him not attending his father's funeral plus after what happened to Rowley Greg drunk a lot of alcohol and made out with Bryce causing him to fire Greg the next day. This made Greg realized of all the terrible things he did and how he was basically as bad as Manny and Frank. By this point Greg is living in the street where he meets Fregley where he told him where he was going through and to Greg's surprise Fregley gave some good advice telling about his backstory. Greg finds out that Fregley's father was physically abusive to him and Fregley's mom growing up, and said the best thing he could do was see his mother (who Fregley's mom is presumed to be deceased). Greg then took that advice and went to Susan's home where he and her talked about Rodrick, Frank, and Manny and it'll be best if Greg stayed at Susan's place until he got his crap together. Then when Greg thinks Susan is asleep, he goes into Susan's closet to get Meemaw's diamond ring that he hid in middle school. But Susan catches him and screamed what he had done which causes him to drop the ring and ran off. Then he realizes that he is in Rodrick's front lawn where he sees Rodrick and his wife and kid he thought to himself what will he even say to him? Greg is done with this and leaves Rodrick alone and not let him deal with Greg screwing up so Greg just slept in the alley.
THIS IS NOT A JOURNAL ITS A SUICIDE NOTE. Greg can't be living like this anymore, he has no one, he has lost everything. THIS IS THE END.
A year later after trying to commit suicide, in a newspaper written by Holly Hills, Greg jumped off a five-story building but paramedics came and rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was in a coma before waking up and uttering the name Rowley then fell back into a coma where he was pronounced dead. Rowley responded saying that it makes him feel horrible after saying that he and Greg had a complex relationship that neither of them understood. Rowley announces the newest Zoo-Wee Mama comic will be a tribute to his friend. Rodrick said in a interview that he had wished Greg told him about this while Susan was too distraught for words. Greg was still alive but stating that "the old Greg is dead." During recovery Greg tries to fix himself by talking to therapists who told him not to write in this journal anymore. Greg has lost his legs but today he is out of the hospital and ready to live a new life.
